Therapeutic indications
Duofilm is a medication for the topical treatment of warts. The 15 ml glass bottle, with brush applicator, contains the active ingredients salicylic acid (16.7 %) and lactic acid (15 %). Applied topically, salicylic acid acts on the surface layer of the skin to promote shedding (desquamation). Lactic acid suppresses the wart skin thickening process. The elastic colloidal film provides a viscous vehicle for accurate application and the penetration of active ingredients into warts. The lactic acid also forms a film that helps keep the skin moisturised, facilitating the elimination of warts.
What Causes Nail Fungus?
Nail fungus, also called onychomycosis, is a common fungal infection that affects toenails more often than fingernails. It can cause nails to become thick, discoloured (yellow/brown/white), brittle, crumbly, and distorted, and it may spread to surrounding skin (like athlete's foot / tinea pedis).
Nail Fungus Signs and Symptoms
You may have nail fungus if your nail is:
- Thicker than normal
- Yellow, brown, white, or cloudy
- Brittle, crumbly, or ragged
- Distorted shape or lifting from the nail bed
- Dull (no shine)
- Sometimes smelly or associated with itchy/flaky skin on the foot
Is Nail Fungus Contagious?
Yes. Nail fungus can spread:
- From person to person (shared floors, showers, towels, nail tools)
- From athlete's foot to the nail
- From one nail to another
Nail Fungus Prevention
You can reduce risk by:
- Keeping feet clean and dry
- Changing socks daily; choosing breathable footwear
- Wearing thongs/flip-flops in public showers
- Treating athlete's foot early
- Disinfecting nail tools; avoiding sharing clippers/files
- Keeping nails trimmed and not digging into corners
